I take this opportunity to exalt my praises to the manufacturers of the
Nokia 5700. The condition I use my phone in, is nearing a dead end if the
housing is not changed. Defiant the 5700 still serves its owner to the fullest. This phone was bought for me by my ex wife,2 years ago. There are instances where it has hugged the wall, on extremely high impact.
Control panel
Currently I use My Nokia 5700 with the control panel off. In addition most parts of the housing leaves it partially naked. In this degenerated condition, i can still access most functionalities. Most importantly calls. The Call Answer key (green in color)is clipped. In the settings menu I enabled the Any key answer option that means I can use any key to pick my calls.
Navigation
The joystick allows you to scroll into settings for the profile,contacts and the music player. Amongst other navigation options. The only setback within the music player interface, is that you wont be able to scroll back to a previous page.Multimedia
Voice Recorder
The voice recorder is fairly lear ( But dont use it to record and interview). It comes out a little muffled. Though its would be superb for recording those tunes that may get vaporised. While singing in your head.
Camera he 2MP camera does well for mp4 youtube videos. For still images, this camera has got good quality from the pixelation of 1600X1200. Coupled with an LED flash.
The list of pros is endless. The camera and music player work just fine. 
Keys
The white key on the extreme left allows to navigate through the menu. That is the key adjacent to the call pick up key (green). Which unfortunately cant be seen in this image.
(C) The Delete KEY
Another hurdle you will face without the control pad is if the (C) cancel key located on the extreme right on the black or red plastic strips at either sides of the 5700. It is difficult to edit text without this key. If you err while typing on the message pad. Thus generating a typo. It will not be possible to delete the word. You would have to think of a word, that is in line with the message you intend to relay.
Contacts
In this condition. To be able to send messages and call your contacts. You will have to view full details of a contact. Then choose the option button. To select from an array of tasks.
The dreadful bit is if you have enabled a feature that allows the display of credit after sending a text or calling. The exit option will not work since the control pad is off. You will then be forced to switch off the phone and put it on again. You also need to disable the phone lock option . Also if you make a call without a control pad, you wont be able to disconnect a call. You’ll have to ask the called party to disconnect.
Ergonomics
So before you change your phone casing.These tips could get you going.
The 5700's resilience strikes awe amongst its hardcore users. Its 369 mhz and in built conexant modem will let you surf on 3G, UMTS through the internet. 5700 Nokia is resilient even with heavy uploads. Yeap you also have bluetooth and infrared to couple it with. Though the infra seems really sluggish.
Charge
Keep it plugged in on the charger whilst connected to your notebook or PC. The Nokia 5700 looses excess charge on connection to the USB. More so if connected to the internet.

I finally changed my Phone casing and voilla!!!! This what my Nokia 5700 now looks
like. The casing is assembled and is not original but most functions are now running. However there seems to be a shorting in the system. This is because highling on a meny before selecting certain tasks. Sends the phone to go ballistic. Gradually i am learning how to HANDLE my love. The 5700.
